Common reasons for AWOL of an employee

AWOL is the Absence Without Official Leave. It is not common in offices and usually occurs in the military when a trainee would desert his post and leave the group permanently. But it also happens in the office. As per my experience there were 2 employees who went AWOL in different companies.

The reasons I know for doing AWOL is the heated disagreement with the boss. Another is in going abroad of a disgruntled employee. But whatever the reason you have is not really a good idea to go AWOL because that would reflect on your resume. Especially if you are employed by a big corporation, just submit an irrevocable resignation as a graceful exit. Leaving without notice is not only being impolite but also rude.

It is not a good idea to become absent from your workplace without asking for leave from the concerned department. If you are absent from your job and you inform your manager that you are not going to come to the office, it will show your unprofessionalism. However, sometimes in accidental cases, you may not be able to inform in advance. But that's an exception.

Well, going AWOL is very common with employees of companies and organizations and this happens for various reasons.

Low pay

One reason is when the pay for the employees is low, even when they agree to start work; they are still looking out for a better place. You wouldn’t expect one with family to stay in a place that the salary can’t do much for the home front. So they would always be permanent abandonment of jobs in this kind of companies

Poor working environment

Nobody wants to work in an environment that it isn’t conducive so when once the environment isn’t right threes bound to be movement by the employees. Maybe there is lack of equipments, right tools to use, the offices are not well furnished or things are not just in place. These will make employees to find a better place

No growth or development

People would always love where there can grow in, no one want to be stagnated so if a place isn’t growing or developing one, it becomes a dumping ground and employees that seek a raise or growth would want to abandon such. Employees love where they would often be trained and retrained to meet up with the emerging society.

if you want to leave your job to attend to other things then you should notify your employer instead of just leaving which is very bad AWOL which means absence without leave can cause lots of punishment to the offender from stoping he/she monthly or weekly payment to getting sacked just leaving your job like that can have devastating effect on the production.

you should never leave your duty post if the boss is not around or available then you should leave a note on his or her table just to tell him or her your whereabouts because if its not a go mental job you can be replaced without notice.
