There’s a secret to getting the timing just right on an ad. There are countless parameters that fine-tune your ad campaigns: seasonality, budget, targeting, ad types, display settings, the creative itself... and so on.

Now, in terms of brand awareness/trust, advertising is at all times a good idea.
If you are looking for a boost in profits, my best advice, which also works generally, is to really study your target audience and build your advertising campaign from there, according to its preferences/habits.

If we understand our target audience well, we know their preferences well and we can have advertisements targeting them at the right time. Also our competitors and their marketing and advertising scheme has to be well understood. To surpass them, we have to lure our target consumers with a better offer and at the right time. Free advertisements are quite effective but then paying a bit extra on paid advertisements can reap more benefits if done in a right way at the right time. One needs to do a deep research in the market about the competition and the target audience with their preferences before launching into paid advertisements. If the background work is not well done, one might end up loosing the money. So, acting smart and the correct timing would be essential.
