Measles otherwise known as rubeola is an acute illness that is very communicable. it is epidemic in large metropolitan areas but seasonal, usually dry season in small area, it is caused by paramyxovirus.
The mode of transmission is by droplet infection.
In an unimmunised population about 90% will have had measles by the age of 5 years. The incubation period is 10 days between exposure and occurrence of fever in 10 days, between exposure and occurrence of rash is 14 days.
The period of communicability is from the appearance of fever to 4 days after appearance of rash.
Every body is susceptible to the disease except infants of mothers who had the disease. This gives the infant passive immunity for up to four months of life.
This are they prodromal phase with the following features such as fever,nasal discharge, barking cough and bilateral conductivity.
If all these symptoms is passive we should proceed to the hospital on time for the perfect treatment.
